KIDNAPPED WOMAN ESCAPES ESTRANGED HUSBAND BY JUMPING OUT OF CAR

HAMILTON COUNTY, Tenn. — Authorities with the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) say a man faces charges after they say he broke into the home of his estranged wife, and forced her to leave with him in his vehicle.

HCSO spokesman Matt Lea says the incident began at an apartment on Jenkins Road in the early morning hours on Friday.  The victim says her estranged husband, John Henry Jones, forced her to leave with him in her vehicle, but a little down the road she managed to get away by jumping out of the moving vehicle on Shallowford Road.

A concerned citizen driving by saw the woman and stopped to help, getting her inside his car. Lea says Jones then reportedly rammed his vehicle and drove off before police arrived.
An ambulance took the woman to the hospital where she was treated for minor injuries.  Lea says after an extensive manhunt Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office Deputies, with assistance from Chattanooga Police Officers, located Jones at the Town Place Suites on McCutcheon Road.  Before deputies could take Jones into custody, Lea says he intentionally shot himself.  Jones was taken to a local hospital with a single self-inflicted gunshot wound. Lea says the extent of his injuries is not known at this time.
