KNOX COUNTY MAN CHARGED WITH ATTEMPTED MURDER IN ROANE COUNTY

A Knox County man is facing a charge of attempted murder following an incident late last night (Wednesday, August 9, 2017) in Roane County. Officers were called to an apartment off of Paint Rock Ferry Road in Kingston where 29-year-old Chester Lynn Mchaffie of Knoxville got into a verbal altercation with a woman. Minutes later, Mchaffie allegedly pointed a firearm at the woman and pulled the trigger twice but the gun did not discharge. Bystanders were able to restrain Mchaffie until police arrived. Officers checked the firearm to see a loaded magazine in the weapon. Along with the attempted murder charge, he was additionally charged with the unlawful possession of a weapon in a public place. Mchaffie was transported to the Roane County jail where he is being held without bond.
