KNOX COUNTY SEES 3RD MOTORCYCLE DEATH IN LESS THAN A WEEK

A motorcyclist was killed Thursday in a head-on crash with a car in Knox County.  The Knox County Sheriff’s Office says a man riding a 2011 Kawasaki motorcycle was on Karns Valley Road just before 8 p.m. when he crossed the center line and hit a 2007 Honda Fit head on.  The motorcyclist was killed. The driver of the Toyota was not injured. Deputies will not release the names until family members are notified. No charges are expected to be filed.

This is the third motorcycle related death in Knox County in less than one week.  On Wednesday, two men were killed when their motorcycle struck a tractor-trailer on Interstate 40. They had stolen the bike moments before the crash.  The men were identified as the driver, Tashanti U. Underwood, 22, of Harriman, and the passenger, Esean A. Phillips, 27, of Knoxville. Neither was wearing a helmet.  The collision occurred about 3:37 a.m. Monday on I-40 westbound between West Hills and Gallaher View Road.  Investigators determined the 2016 Yamaha R1 motorcycle was traveling at a high rate of speed and struck the rear of the semi. Both riders were thrown from the motorcycle and were pronounced dead at the scene.
