LATEST STATE COMPTROLLER’S AUDIT SHOWS MARKED IMPROVEMENT FOR MORGAN COUNTY
An annual audit by the State Comptroller’s Office shows a decrease in findings for Morgan County from the previous year. Last year, the state office released a report showing that there were four areas in which Morgan County needed to take corrective action. This year, the total findings have decreased to three. Findings not in compliance include Trustee bank statements need to be reconciled in a timely manner and the Sheriff’s Dept. failed to not formally document internal controls for office operations. Officials say that the average number of findings in county audits is 4.8, which puts Morgan County below the average number.
