LAWSUIT ACC– USES ROANE ACADEMY OF COVERING UP SEX AB– USE AND FRAUD

A former counselor at the Roane Acacemy in Roane County has filed a lawsuit saying she was terminated from her job after reporting the academy for TennCare fraud and sex abuse.

Roane Academy is operated by Omni Visions that gives housing and treatment to troubled teenage boys ranging in age from 12 to 17.

According to the lawsuit, Vickie Davis worked at the Roane Academy from March 2015 to March 2016. The sexual abuse incident identified in the lawsuit is regarding a 17-year-old who allegedly had sex with a counselor in a laundry room. The lawsuit stated that once the counselor and teen were inside the room, the lights were turned off. The teen later reported it to Davis. The lawsuit says that when Davis reported the incident, the center director Mark Akers allegedly responded to her telling her to mind her business. Davis alleged that the counselot pulled the teen aside to tell them about a family member. That report sparked two investigations by the TBI and another from the state Department of Children’s Services. Davis also alleges in the lawsuit that the academy was billing TennCare for therapy by unlicensed workers.

Davis would later be placed on paid leave then escorted from the building pending an internal investigation. Davis later received a letter clearing her to return to work but when she did, she was escorted off the property again. The lawsuit states the academy allegedly told Davis they lost her paperwork and would have to go through another background check.

Davis’ lawsuit is asking for $2 million in damages and back pay. A hearing date regarding the lawsuit has not been determined.
