LEBANON WOMAN ARRESTED ON DRUG CHARGES IN CUMBERLAND COUNTY

While conducting a traffic stop for a seatbelt violation just after midnight on Tuesday, Cumberland County deputies made contact with the driver, who was said to be “extremely nervous and shaking profusely.” Also in the vehicle was a passenger, 25-year-old Hayes Caroline Smith of Lebanon, who admitted being on probation. While the deputy was conducting a records check, Smith kept making furtive movements with her hands toward her body, so he asked another deputy to pat her down for weapons.

The deputy didn’t find weapons, but he did find something small and hard in the vicinity of her bra. Deputies asked what it was and Smith said it was medication and a cellophane wrapper.

It turned out to be four prescription pills, a small amount of meth, a straw with meth residue, five syringes and a burnt spoon with burnt residue.

The driver refused consent to search the vehicle.

Smith was charged with simple possession of a Schedule IV drug and manufacture, sale, delivery or possession of meth. She was placed under $30,000 bond and is due to appear in court April 29.
