LIFE SENTENCES GIVEN TO MAN RESPONSIBLE FOR PICKETT COUNTY DOUBLE MURDER

“Guilty of two counts of first degree murder.” That is what a Kentucky man charged with the deaths of a Pickett County father and son told Judge David Patterson in Putnam County Criminal court today. Court officials say 37-year-old Joshua Pyles of Monticello, Kentucky was additionally charged with especially aggravated robbery. The bodies of Dannie and Cody Dowdy were discovered at the Sugar Shack in Pickett County on July 30, 2014. Officers say Pyles went into the business, shot the two men and took $400 from a cash register. With the guilty plea today, Pyles was sentenced to life in prison for each of the two murder charges to run concurrent. Pyles also pled guilty to especially aggravated robbery and got 18 years to run consecutive to the murder sentences. 13th Judicial District Attorney General Bryant C. Dunaway prosecuted the case against Pyles. Pyles will have to serve at least 51 years making him 88 years old before being considered for parole.
