Firefighters in Cumberland County as well as in Rockwood responded to Westel Baptist Church on Highway 70 around 6 p.m. eastern yesterday. A motorist passing by reported smoke was coming from the small steeple on the roof of the structure. Officials say the brief blaze started as a result of a lightning strike from a strong storm. It was contained without any further damage. No injuries were reported.
