LOCKSMITH OPENING IN CELINA; DEPUTIES CAN’T UNLOCK CARS ANYMORE
Starting Tuesday, if you lock your keys in your car in Clay County, you’re going to have to call a locksmith. Clay County Sheriff’s Department Chief Deputy Jeff Allen said the sheriff’s department has unlocked cars for as long as he can remember, but that’ll change this week. “We’re not supposed to unlock car doors if there’s a company here,” Allen said. “We do it for emergencies, if there’s a child or pet in the car.” State law prevents law enforcement from unlocking a vehicle if there’s a locksmith service in the area, unless there’s an emergency, like a child locked in the car on a hot day.
Tuesday, Luke’s Unlock will open, and they’ll be the source for vehicle unlocking in Clay County. Allen said customers can call Luke’s directly or the sheriff’s department can notify the locksmith service.
