A Crossville woman faces multiple felony and misdemeanor charges after police say she tracked down her legally separated husband at a local gas station, stole his company cell phone, and later attempted to destroy it while resisting arrest.

Lois Danielle Selby was arrested and booked into the Cumberland County Justice Center following the August 1 incident at Mr. Zips gas station on Peavine Road.

According to Crossville Police Department reports filed by Ptl. Matt Charlock, officers responded to the gas station after a man reported that his soon-to-be ex-wife had pulled up beside his vehicle while he was loading luggage into a truck. Security footage confirmed that Lois Selby opened the vehicle’s door and removed a black phone with a dark green case before driving away.

Police tracked the suspect’s black Mercedes SUV to a residence in the Green Briar subdivision on Creekway Drive. When confronted by officers, Lois Selby initially claimed ownership of the phone, refused to cooperate, and demanded that police leave the property.

As officers prepared to apply for search warrants, Lois Selby was temporarily taken out of handcuffs to retrieve the device. Instead, authorities say she pulled the phone from her person or vehicle, threw it onto the pavement, and began aggressively stomping on it in an attempt to destroy it. She actively resisted officers who intervened to stop her.

Officers recovered the device and returned it to the victim. While the phone’s glass screen protector was completely shattered, the device itself remained functional.

Lois Selby has been formally charged with vehicle burglary, vandalism, and resisting arrest. Police noted that because the couple has been legally separated with finalized property division paperwork and pending divorce filings, she had no legal right to enter the vehicle or take the property.
