Local law enforcement is issuing an urgent warning to residents following a surge of fraudulent phone calls involving individuals posing as representatives of the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.

According to the Madisonville Police Department, the scammers are contacting citizens and aggressively demanding money over the phone. Authorities emphasize that this is a complete scam.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office has reiterated that law enforcement personnel will never, under any circumstances, call citizens to solicit money or demand payments over the phone for outstanding warrants, missed jury duty, fines, or other penalties.
