MAN AIRLIFTED FROM SCENE OF ROCKWOOD CRASH SATURDAY
Rockwood Police and emergency personnel worked another serious accident Saturday afternoon. An SUV was traveling south on Highway 27 near Rockwood Memorial Gardens, when it left the road, plunged into a ravine, struck a tree and overturned. The resulting crash pinned a man, identified as Maurice Wright, inside the vehicle. Rockwood Fire and Roane County Rescue Squad personnel rushed to the scene and set up a high-angle rescue to free Wright and bring him up the hill. A helicopter landing zone was established in the southbound lanes of the highway and Wright was flown by Lifestar to UT Medical Center. His condition was not immediately known. Two other passengers, Karen Redmon and Mose Bailey, were treated for non-life threatening injuries.
