MAN CHARGED WITH FATALLY SHOOTING HIS SON
Chattanooga Police are seeking a motive for the city’s fifth homicide of 2018. Monday night police arrested Billy Forte, whom they say shot and killed his son, 47-year-old Charles Forte, at the Eaves Formal Wear Warehouse on Gunbarrel Road.
A witness working with the victim said Billy Norman Forte came to the business, where he and his son had a brief conversation. The elder Forte reportedly left and returned about a minute later with a shotgun.
A witness told police Billy Forte shot his son twice inside the store, once in the head, the second time as he lay on the ground. The motive for the shooting is still under investigation. A witness told police he believed the victim never posed a threat to the shooter.
Shortly after his arrest for criminal homicide, Billy Forte admitted shooting his son. Now in custody in the Hamilton County Jail on $750,000 bond, he is due in court April 10.
