MAN WITH AGG. DOMESTIC ASSAULT AND FELONY ENDANGERMENT CHARGES TO APPEAR IN COURT ON TUESDAY

Alexander Gregory Rice is facing multiple charges in Cumberland County Court on Tuesday, including aggravated domestic assault, felony reckless endangerment involving a vehicle, domestic assault, and evading arrest with a risk of death or injury. The charges stem from an investigation initiated on February 5, 2023, when investigators responded to Cumberland Medical Center. Law enforcement observed severe trauma to a female victim’s eyes, resulting in her emergency transfer to the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville for specialized treatment.

During interviews at the hospital, the victim reported that Rice, her boyfriend, had repeatedly attacked her for several hours throughout the early morning. According to the investigator’s affidavit, the prolonged assault caused serious bodily injury—including the potential permanent loss of vision—and involved strangulation, biting, and being forcibly held down against her will. Formal grand jury indictments for the incident, alongside the vehicular reckless endangerment and evading arrest charges, were filed on April 22, 2024. Rice, who is being represented by a public defender, recently appeared for a motion hearing where his bond was set at $125,000.
