MAYOR KENNETH CAREY, JR. SERVICE TO CUMBERLAND COUNTY RUNS DECADES

Tonight’s county commission meeting was the last one for Cumberland County Mayor Kenneth Carey, Jr. Mayor Carey chose not to run for re-election and will be replaced by Mayor-Elect Allen Foster September 1, 2018.

Carey started his service as county mayor September 1, 2010, succeeding Brock Hill, who served from 1994 to 2010.

If you look at the entire time Carey has served the county, you have to go back to the late 1970’s when he started as a volunteer firefighter.

He then served as an EMT from 1984 to 1992 and 1992 to 2010 in the fire department.

Carey served 12 years as 7th district county commissioner.

In his service as county mayor, he worked with TDOT for the Peavine Road expansion project and led the county in the worst natural disaster in Cumberland County history, the 2015 ice storm.
