MCMINN, POLK COUNTIES DEVASTATED BY SEVERE STORMS

As firefighters and emergency responders continue to combat wildfires in Gatlinburg and around Pigeon Forge, residents of another East Tennessee area felt the effects of Tuesday night’s vicious storm which brought intense rain and high winds. Tornado watches and warnings were issued across the region with McMinn and Polk Counties receiving the brunt of the force. Roofs were ripped from homes, trees and powerlines fell and other structures were destroyed. Authorities report that at least 20 people were injured in the storm. Polk County Officials say that two people died in the severe storm which struck that area and destroyed at least 25 homes. Photo courtesy of WATE
