MOBILE HOME DESTROYED, POWER KNOCKED OUT FROM STORM

Straight line winds of up to 80 miles per hour took down multiple trees causing significant damage in McMinn County this morning (Tuesday, November 7, 2017). The winds destroyed a mobile home sending one man to the hospital. The damage also included a 3 phase powerline on County Road 100 that resulted in 1,000 customers being out of power in Meigs and McMinn counties. McMinn County Sheriff Joe Guy said the storm knocked down trees and damaged structures in the County Road 100, 580 and 461 areas. Initial reports indicated the damage may have been caused by a small tornado but a National Weather Service assessment team confirmed the straight line winds this afternoon.
