MOCK DUI DRILL HELD AT CUMBERLAND COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL

Students at Cumberland County High School in Crossville this morning got to see a mock DUI accident drill involving some of their very own. The drill simulated the dangers of drinking and driving during prom or any other day.

In the mock simulation drill this morning, a truck collided head on with a van carrying students in front of CCHS on Stanley Street. At least two fatalities were simulated in the truck and numerous injuries took place. The Crossville Police Department, Crossville Fire Department, Cumberland County Sheriff’s Department, Cumberland County medical first responders all arrived at the scene to simulate what they do in an actual vehicle accident of this nature.

Students got to see one driver of the vehicles arrested for DUI that could have led to additional charges including vehicular homicide. One of the students injured was simulated to have injuries that required LifeForce to land at Martin Elementary School to transport her.

Cumberland County Sheriff Casey Cox, who was on the scene of the mock crash, told 105.7 News that it is very important to hold the drill each year. “This is the 17th year we have held the mock DUI crash drill in the county. It has been well received by the high school students. Thank goodness we have not had any real incidents simular to this since this program was started,” said Cox. “The drill shows students that a bad decision such as drinking and driving can not only affect their own life but the lives of many others.”

Some students from Martin Elementary was also able to see the activity but from a distance just outside of their school because of the nature of the drill.

The event was sponsored by the TAD Center in Crossville and the Victims Impact Panel of Tennessee.

According to Sheriff Cox, Stone Memorial High School in Crossville will host the mock DUI drill next week.
