TBI RELEASE 2016 “CRIME IN TENNESSEE” REPORT
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has released its 2016 Crime in Tennessee report. Crimes Against Property made up nearly 55 percent of all crimes reported in the state last year. Statistics prove that more than half of the crimes reported “Against Persons” involved domestic violence and that forcible rapes decreased by 2.8 percent. Kidnapping/abduction cases also decreased however the TBI says that the amount of murders increased in 2016 by 11.6 percent. There was a 14 percent increase in weapons violations. The number of DUI arrests decreased, but the number of drug/narcotic violations increased by 9.5 percent. The amount of juveniles being arrested decreased from 7 percent to 6.6 percent. The report is based off data from law enforcement agencies across the state through the Tennessee Incident Based Reporting System.
