A horrific accident on I-40 westbound in Cumberland County is being reported as a multi-vehicle wreck with multiple fatalities. There is little information being released at this time, however 1057 News has learned that authorities, fire, and emergency personnel were called at 1:48 PM to the westbound I-40 area at the 320 exit where a multi-vehicle wreck, involving a car hauler and several other vehicles had just occurred. According to Sheriff Casey Cox the crash involved multiple fatalities. Sources say that three people died in the crash. A male subject was airlifted to a regional trauma center by Lifestar chopper. The extent of his wounds was unknown. The wreck caused a portion of I-40 westbound to be closed, and traffic is currently being redirected around the closed-off zone. 1057 News will have more on this developing story as details are released.
