Evidence against a Rhea County man charged with murdering a Nashville store clerk will go to a grand jury to consider possible indictments. In a preliminary hearing held today for Daniel Clark, a Nashville detective testified that Clark allegedly shot 58-year-old John Stevens ten times the night of May 2, 2017. Weaver said Stevens was shot twice in the heart, twice in the head, twice in the chest area, once in the abdomen, once in the shoulder and two bullets gazed his face. Clark, along with 15-year-old Trinity Quinn, tried to steal a SUV outside the store, but were unsuccessful. Weaver said Clark and Quinn camped out overnight somewhere near I-40. The suspects were picked up the next day after they were spotted by a dump truck driver. Weaver said the firearm used in the murder was recovered a few days later in the area the two were staying in the woods.

After hearing the evidence, the judge found probable cause to send the case to the grand jury.

Clark and Quinn are both facing criminal homicide charges. A hearing has been scheduled in September to determine if Quinn will be tried an an adult.
