NEW ANIMAL SHELTER PROPOSED TO CROSSVILLE CITY COUNCIL

Tuesday, the Crossville City Council listened to a proposal on a new animal shelter that would be located in the city. Dr. Mark Hendrixson headed the presentation. Council members were informed that the current shelter, located on East Lane for 42 years, is in drastic need of upgrades. Hendrixson has been spearheading efforts to gather funding for either renovations for the old building or construction of a new facility, to be located off Genesis Rd. near the back of Centennial Park. Currently, the city and county contribute an annual sum of $90,000 each toward upkeep of the shelter. Hendrixson displayed plans for the new proposed facility which would be a total of 4400 square feet inside and outside at a cost of approximately $500,000. The proposition was for the city to donate the land, around five acres, and that construction funding would be provided by private donations. Council members had several questions and so the matter will be placed on the agenda for the city’s Jan. 10th meeting.
