NWS: STRAIGHT LINE WINDS, NOT TORNADO, CAUSED DAMAGE IN FAIRFIELD GLADE
The National Weather Service (NWS) now says straight-line winds instead of a small tornado caused damage in Fairfield Glade community this past Tuesday (May 4, 2021). The area around Heatherhurst Golf Course was hit the hardest. Trees were down in many areas and on a few homes. Departments assisting with the clean-up included the Fairfield Glade Fire Department, Crossville/Cumberland County Emergency Management Agency, Cumberland County Fire Department, Cumberland County Rescue Squad, Cumberland County Road Department, Crossville Fire Department, and Crossville City Public Works Department. No injuries were reported.
Trees were also blown down in other areas of Cumberland County including in Pleasant Hill and on Potato Farm and Peavine Firetower Road.
The storm line that pushed from west to east across Tennessee Tuesday was responsible for nearly a dozen EF-0 tornadoes touching down in various counties.
