OLIVER SPRINGS CITY COUNCIL APPROVES NEW “CHICKEN IN YARD” ORDINANCE

The Oliver Springs City Council has finally settled on an ordinance that has been a long time coming. The “chicken in a yard” ordinance was barely approved with a 3-2 vote, but now those property owners who wish to raise laying hens but only have less than an acre of land, may do so. There are new restrictions however. A 100 foot boundary must be established between the coops and boundary lines. Also, a permit must be obtained and signed by neighbors to the property. No more than six hens can be kept at a time with only one rooster. And the fowls cannot run at large unless, of course, they are fenced in.
