ONE DEAD, TWO HOSPITALIZED AFTER BOAT CAPSIZES NEAR FORT LOUDOUN DAM

Three men were sent overboard when their boat overturned just below Fort Loudoun Dam this morning. Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency officials say one has died.

Just after 10 this morning, TWRA officials arrived at the scene with other emergency crews. TWRA reports the three men, all from North Carolina, were approaching the dam on the Tennessee River when their boat got pulled into water being discharged from the dam.

According to witnesses, the boaters seemed to be heading toward the one floodgate not discharging water. The boat apparently got too close to the discharging water and the force pulled it beneath the surface. Witnesses said the boat surfaced sideways, minus the boaters, who were thrown from the vessel.

Published reports indicate nearby fishermen rescued the men. One died at the scene; the other two were hospitalized. Witnesses say all three were wearing life jackets when the boat went under, but none had life jackets on once they resurfaced.
