PICKETT COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE REPORTS ON THREE DRUG ARRESTS

On January 31, 2025 at approximately 1943 the Pickett County Sheriff’s Office received a call concerning an individual walking in the middle of the roadway in and out of traffic. Deputy John Craig Jr made contact with Johnny Michael Beaty 57 of Albany, KY. Mr. Beaty was found to have a container containing a green leafy substance consistent with that of marijuana along with a glass container containing a white crystal like substance consistent with methamphetamine over .5 grams. Mr. Beaty was arrested for 39-17-418 Simple Possession of Schedule VI and 39-17-417 Manufacture, Delivery, Sale, or Possession of Schedule II. Detective Levi Thoman and Sheriff Dana Dowdy assisted Deputy Craig with this case.
On February 1, 2025 at approximately 1820 on off duty Overton County Officer Denton Jones was coming through Pickett County enroute to his residence when he spotted Mr. Tony Ray Stewart 54 of Pall Mall at the Speed Mart in Byrdstown. Deputy Jones had prior knowledge of outstanding warrants on the subject out of Overton County. Deputies Keyton Dowdy and Ethan Storie responded to his location and made contact with Mr. Stewart. Mr. Stewart had on odor coming from his person and vehicle of that consistent with marijuana. A search of the vehicle was conducted and two bags containing a green leafy substance consistent with marijuana was located and a loaded needle with what field tested for methamphetamine was located. Therefore charging Mr. Stewart with 39-17-418 simple possession of schedule II methamphetamine, 39-17-418 simple possession of schedule VI marijuana, and 39-17-425 unlawful drug paraphernalia.
On February 9, 2025 at approximately 0120 the Pickett County Sheriff’s Office received a call requesting EMS assistance 5865 North York Highway. Sheriff Dana Dowdy, Deputy William Corya, Deputy Logan South, and Deputy Keyton Dowdy responded and made contact with Brian Scott Sandlin (52) of Jamestown, TN whom showed signs of those consistent with being under the influence presenting with slurred speech and pinpoint pupils along with sweating profusely. After clearance from EMS he was asked to produce his driver license and when he opened the door to his vehicle a loaded syringe containing a brown in color substance which field tested positive for Heroin. Therefore charging the above with 39-17-418 Simple Possession or Casual Exchange of Schedule I Heroin, 39-17-425 Unlawful Drug Paraphernalia, and 39-17-310 Public Intoxication.
