PLAQUE DEDICATION DATE SET TO HONOR THE LATE METEOROLOGIST STEVE NORRIS
The Cumberland County Building and Grounds Committee met this afternoon and set a date and time for a plaque dedication honoring the late meteorologist Steve Norris.
It will be held Friday, May 3, 2024, starting at 10 a.m. at the old Tennessee Highway Patrol building next to the old courthouse on the corner of Second Avenue and Main Street. Norris used the building for an office to send out weather forecasts.
The bronze-raised letter plaque will be placed on the building. It has a picture of Norris with the words “Steve Norris – In loving memory of a local radio icon and beloved weatherman 1959 – 2022”.
Steve began on-air weather forecasting at age 17 for local radio station WAEW-AM/FM.

Steve passed away at Cumberland Medical Center on September 22, 2022, after suffering complications from pneumonia.
The ceremony on May 3, 2024, will include a proclamation by County Mayor Allen Foster.
Tony Perry will be the guest speaker at the event to honor Norris.
In case of inclement weather on May 3, it will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 10, 2024.
