POLICE: DRIVER ARRESTED AFTER GOING 73 MPH ON WEST AVENUE IN CROSSVILLE
While on patrol early last night, a Cumberland County deputy observed a driver traveling at a high rate of speed on West Avenue. The officer reportedly clocked the driver going 73 miles per hour in a 30 zone.
The arrest report states the driver, 20-year-old Samuel Braxton Neely of Crossville, turned abruptly into the parking lot of Weigel’s. Officers say Neely went through the parking lot at an unsafe speed and turned on Sparta Drive.
Police took Neely into custody after he stopped at a residence on Town Loop.
The report states Neely told police there was no emergency to cause him to drive at a high rate of speed.
Neely was charged with reckless endangerment and evading arrest.
Police say the reckless endangerment charge stems from Neely cutting through the parking lot of Weigel’s while the business was open and customers were present.
