PRESIDENT GEORGE H.W. BUSH REMEMBERED AT NATIONAL CATHEDRAL FUNERAL

President George H.W. Bush, the 41st president of the United States, was remembered at a funeral service at the Washington National Cathedral on Wednesday. Bush died Friday, November 30, 2018, in Houston, just seven months after the death of Barbara Bush, his wife of 73 years.

President Donald J. Trump and first lady Melania Trump were in attendance at the funeral, along with the four living former presidents – Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton, Barack Obama and George W. Bush.

Four people will eulogize Bush: presidential historian and author Jon Meacham, former prime minister of Canada Brian Mulroney, former Wyoming U.S. Senator Alan K. Simpson and President George W. Bush.

George H.W. Bush, who served as the 41st president of the United States, died on Nov. 30 at age 94 in Houston. His casket was flown to Washington, D.C., and brought to the U.S. Capitol rotunda, where he had been lying in repose since Monday. Tens of thousands of mourners visited the rotunda to pay their respects to the late commander-in-chief.

Tennessee and NFL legend Peyton Manning joined other professional athletes in paying respects to the late president, who was an avid sports fan. Manning was joined by golfer Phil Mickleson, Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski and MLB all-star Albert Pujols.

Michael W. Smith was among the performers singing at the former president’s funeral. The former president had also indicated years ago he wanted The Oak Ridge Boys – his favorite group – to sing “Amazing Grace” at his funeral. The group sang “Amazing Grace” at Bush 41’s inauguration ceremonies, as well as in the White House and at this family’s home in Maine. The singers say they feel privileged to get to sing it for him one more time at tomorrow’s funeral service in Houston.

Bush 43 concluded his eulogy with, “Let us pray that he is hugging Robin and holding mom’s hand again.”

Pauline Robinson “Robin” Bush was George and Barbara Bush’s 3-year-old daughter who died of leukemia in 1953.
