RADON COULD BE PREVALENT IN UPPER CUMBERLAND HOMES ACCORDING TO EMA
Homes in the Upper Cumberland Region may be more likely to have increased levels of radon. Putnam County EMA Director Tyler Smith says that homes located on top of or around caves are more likely to show a higher rating of Radon, which is an odorless, colorless gas that comes from the breakdown of uranium, which is found in such places. Radon can lead to lung cancer, and the Tennessee Dept. of Environment and Conservation (TDEC) says that reports of Radon are known to exist in all Tennessee counties. Kits are available that will test the amount of Radon in your home. Gov. Bill Haslam has proclaimed January 2019 as Radon Action Month. TDEC offers free tests for those interested in testing their home.
