RESOLUTIONS CONNECTED TO PROPOSED CRAB ORCHARD WIND FARM TO BE LOOKED AT TONIGHT BY CUMBERLAND COUNTY COMMISSION

Tonight’s Cumberland County Commission meeting could be a controversial one. Two resolutions have been proposed by interim 9th District Commissioner Sandra Dutcher and both have connections to a proposed wind farm in the Crab Orchard area. The first resolution would authorize the county, per Tennessee Code Annotated, to regulate the use of property where the use of said property would be detrimental to the health, morals, comfort, safety, convenience or welfare of the residents. The second resolution would request that the county commission join the Fairfield Glade Community Club, the City of Crossville and Cumberland County State and Federal Representatives in finding the proposed wind farm to be detrimental to the general welfare and best interests of the residents of Cumberland County. Dutcher represents the Fairfield Glade area, the group that has been most vocal in protesting the wind farm that would be placed on Millstone Mountain by Apex Clean Energy. The facility would consist of 23 wind turbines on 50 acres of an 1800 acre tract at a cost of $130 million. It would create about 70 jobs during its’ initial construction and about 7 permanent jobs upon completion and would provide a $27 million investment for the county.
