The Roane County Commission voted Monday night to allow County Executive Ron Woody to negotiate for property to add an expansion onto the county jail. The property is the Dollar General Store which sits adjacent to the jail. The original asking price for the property was $850,000. That number was cut back to $760,000. The space is only leased by the store so if the deal is accepted, the store would have to pay the county an estimated $57,000 a month for the space. Commissioners also discussed the idea of having a satellite courtroom beside the jail where inmates would not be needed to be transported outside the premises as they are now.
