ROANE COUNTY VOLUNTEER FIREFIGHTERS TEAM UP TO BATTLE 40-ACRE BLAZE
All of Roane County’s volunteer fire agencies were called to a fire south of Rockwood on Eagle Furnace Road, near Winton Chapel last night after an abandoned house caught fire around 8:30.
It had initially been reported that a couple utility poles were on fire in a forested area, as well as two structures being threatened.
Numerous agencies, including Midtown, South, East, Emergency Management and Rescue Squad were on the scene about four hours, assisting West Roane County in battling the fire. A State Forestry team also responded with a dozer to cut a line around the fire, which aided in getting it under control. Sources say the blaze covered some 40 acres.
