ROCKWOOD CABOOSE FINDS NEW HOME AT HOMECOMING PARK
The famous Rockwood Red Caboose was moved yesterday to a new home at Homecoming Park next to Rockwood Street. The move was assisted by Ed Mayes from B&B Foundation Services and Rockwood Public Works.
In addition to the move, the city also recently broke ground on new bathrooms beside the concrete pad at Homecoming Park and has applied for a nearly $700,000 Blue Cross Blue Shield grant to renovate the park including installing playground equipment.
Rockwood City Administrator Beck Ruppe said the goal is to make the park a safe place for children to play, and to make the park more appealing for events such as Main Street Monday. Many of the ideas for the park’s renovations were made in cooperation with Rockwood High School’s STEM classes from trips made at the end of last year.
Plans for the caboose include building decks around it so people can sit and watch trains go by. Currently, the city is getting ready for upcoming Christmas festivities which will include decorating the Caboose for the city’s annual tree lighting ceremony set for Saturday, Dec. 7th.
