ROCKWOOD MAN ARRESTED AFTER ALLEGEDLY STRIKING POLICE OFFICER

A Roane County man was arrested on numerous charges following an incident that took place early this morning. According to the report filed by Rockwood police, an officer was patrolling at the 200th block of Bates Street around 2 am when he saw a male subject walking down the street towards a vehicle. The officer stopped and asked 32-year-old Steven Jerome Bailey of Rockwood where he was heading and Bailey allegedly had a difficult time speaking to the officer. The report states that Bailey allegedly told officers he was taking zoloft. As one officer attempted to place handcuffs on Bailey as a precaution to learn more about the situation, Bailey allegedly pulled away and ran off.The officer caught Bailey after a short foot pursuit then Bailey allegedly stuck him in the side of the head. Bailey got free again and ran south on North Wilder Avenue. Rockwood police later found Bailey and arrested him. Bailey was charged with public intoxication, assault on a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest, evading arrest and possession of burglary tools.
