SEVEN KNOX COUNTY OFFICERS ON LEAVE AFTER CONFRONTATION RESULTS IN MAN’S DEATH

Seven Knox County officers are on paid leave pending an investigation into an incident last night (Tuesday, May 23, 2017) that left a man dead after a confrontation. Authorities responded to the 2200 block of Hay Meadow Trail where 74-year-old Albert Gagnier allegedly had fired a gun at a subject multiple times. When Knox County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrived, there was a confrontation with Gagnier that police say resulted in additional gunfire from the suspect. The officers fired their weapons, striking Gagnier. Gagnier was taken to UT Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. Family members say Gagnier had been showing unusual behavior lately and investigators will be working with the medical examiner to determine if this was a factor.
