SHARPE ALLEGEDLY WRITES BAD CHECK OF OVER $52,000 FOR VEHICLE AT DEALERSHIP

A Rhea Countian was taken into custody following a theft of a vehicle in Crossville. Police say 50-year-old John William Sharpe attempted to purchase a 2019 Chevy Silverado from a car dealership on North Main Street with a check in the amount of just over $52,000 ($52,184.97 to be exact). The bank notified the business a few days later the checking account was closed. Investigators learned Sharpe allegedly wrote a quarter million dollars’ worth of bad checks after the account was ceased. Rhea County authorities arrested Sharpe at his home in Dayton on charges there. He also will have warrants in Cumberland County based on the incident.
