SHIFT IN SCHOOL DISTRICTS WILL AFFECT SOME ROANE COUNTY STUDENTS

Beginning the 2017-2018 school year, some Roane County School districts will be adjusted to further reduce student travel time and align district boundaries more closely with home addresses. Based upon the information the school system has for home addresses, some students assigned school district will be changing. The following areas will be affected by the change:

Students in areas north of Hwy 70 from Caney Creek RV Park to the Kingston bridge will change zones from Midtown/Cherokee Middle/Roane County High to Midtown/Harriman Middle/Harriman High.

All areas from Centers Ferry Bridge to Skyline Drive including Holiday Shores Subdivision will change zones from Oliver Springs (Dyllis Springs/Oliver Springs Middle/Oliver Springs High) to Kingston (Kingston Elementary/Cherokee Middle/Roane County High).

All areas north of Harriman City limits to Emory River/Hwy 61 Cross will change zones from Oliver Springs (Dyllis Springs Elem/Oliver Springs Middle/Oliver Springs High) to Harriman (Bowers Elem/Harriman Middle/Harriman High).

School officials say bus transportation is provided for in-district transportation only. Therefore, if a parent chooses to have their child continue attending his or her current school rather than the newly zoned district, the parent will need to provide their own transportation to and from the school.

Parents are encouraged to contact their child’s current school by April 15 if they plan on their child continuing at his or her current school. If a parent intends to move their child to the new assigned school district, please contact the new school by April 15. Contact the Roane County Schools Transportation Department at (865) 590-0153 for additional questions about addresses impacted by redistricting.
