SHOPLIFTER AT WALMART PULLS KNIFE, STARTS PURSUIT AND IS LATER CAUGHT

A man who has shop-lifted at several Walmart stores in the area, was caught after an incident Saturday in Crossville. Police were called to the Walmart on N. Main St. for a shop-lifting in progress. Store security told officers that a male suspect had selected two Stanley tool kits and a power washer, placed them in a cart, and was proceeding out of the store with the items. Two security guards attempted to stop the suspect outside, when he pushed the cart toward one of the men turning it over. He then produced a pocket knife and brandished it at the men. No injuries were reported. The suspect, later identified as 46-year-old Jad Mubarak, then fled the scene in a Chevy Cobalt. An attempt to stop Mubarak on Industrial Blvd. failed and a hot-pursuit began through parts of the city and onto I-40 before the chase was terminated for safety reasons. Warrants were issued for Mubarak who had already been previously entered into Walmart’s internal computer system. He was taken into custody in Knoxville later that same day and faces several charges.
