STUDENTS WARNED OF “WORK AT HOME” SCAM

Students are being warned of an email scam going around the area. Crossville Police report that a female student taking online classes through Tennessee Tech University received an email in reference to a job working from her home. It was thought at the time that the email was linked to her studying at home online. The woman replied that she was interested in a job and a few days later, she received a check for $3600. The money was to be used to order office supplies. The woman was instructed to deposit the money to her bank account and then send a money order to an address in Florida for the supplies. She was later contacted by her bank that the check she received was no good and that the money order funds were taken from her own account. The investigation is continuing.
