T.V.A. AND B.V.I. AWARDS $655,000 TO 179 SCHOOLS

The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) and Bicentennial Volunteers, Inc. (BVI) have awarded $655,000 in robotics grants to 179 schools and non-profit organizations across TVA’s seven-state region to establish or enhance robotics programs. This new initiative, akin to TVA and BVI’s long-standing STEM awards, supports schools and non-profits served by TVA-affiliated local power companies, with a full list of recipients available at tva.com/robotics.
TVA President and CEO Don Moul emphasized that the funding aims to prepare students for modern careers by fostering robotics skills. For instance, Tupelo Middle School in Mississippi will use its grant for a field trip to Vanderbilt University and to make First Lego League participation free, while Lake County High School in Tennessee plans to upgrade robotics equipment with VEX IQ parts and laptops. BVI President Kathy Black noted the program’s role in inspiring innovation and hands-on learning to drive regional progress.
While this is the first year for the robotics awards, TVA, BVI, and the TVA Retirees Association have supported robotics programs in the region for years.
