The man who died while in custody of the White County Sheriff’s Dept. recently has been identified. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation says that Mauris Crespo was the suspect who fled the scene of an accident in DeKalb County on foot. Crespo was found just over the White County line by deputies. The report states that Crespos began to assault the officers who then deployed a taser. Crespos was then handcuffed and transported to jail where he was found unresponsive upon arrival. He was later pronounced dead at White County Hospital. The TBI’s investigation is ongoing.
