TBI INVESTIGATES FATAL NEW YEAR’S DAY SHOOTING IN CROSSVILLE

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is continuing its investigation into the New Year’s Day shooting that left one man dead. Officers responded to a report of a possible shooting shortly after midnight on the 100 block of Sandy Creek Road. The suspect, 27-year-old Douglas Lee Deck of Crossville, had already secured the weapon in a safe and was standing by the road, with his hands up in a non-threatening manner, awaiting the arrival of law enforcement. Cumberland County deputies found him to be calm and rational.

The victim, identified as Paul Wing, was discovered in the yard, suffering from a gunshot wound. Deputies began CPR until Cumberland County EMS arrived to transport him to Cumberland Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

A criminal history of Deck revealed two prior felony convictions; he was not supposed to be in possession of a firearm. Deck was charged with being a felon in possession of a weapon and was placed under $200,000 bond.
