The Morgan County Sheriff’s Department is under investigation by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation stemming from an incident that allegedly occurred at the jail last month. TBI public information officer Susan Niland told 105.7 News this afternoon that at the request of District Attorney General Russell Johnson, the TBI is looking into allegations of official misconduct and assault of an inmate while being removed from a jail cell by two corrections officers at the Morgan County jail. The current investigation is separate from an incident that took place in August. In that case, a former inmate filed a lawsuit against the Morgan County Sheriff’s Department and the county, stating he was hurt after being moved by corrections officers from a jail cell.
