TDOT PATCHING POTHOLES UNTIL WARMER WEATHER PERMITS BETTER FIX

Recent extreme weather conditions, such as ice, snow and rain, unfortunately lead to an increase in pot holes on state roadways and bridges. The unsightly holes are made when moisture seeps into cracks in the pavement, then freezes and thaws causing the cracks to expand. The constant pounding of traffic loosens the pavement which causes it to crumble, creating potholes. During winter months, TDOT usually relies on “cold mix” asphalt as a temporary fix. Once warmer weather arrives and “hot mix” asphalt plants are operational, TDOT will perform more permanent repairs. TDOT spends approximately $2 million annually on statewide pothole repair. Motorists are advised to be alert and watch for TDOT crews working on such repairs.
