TEETERING CROSSVILLE SPEEDWAY SIGN REPLACED

High winds not only caused distressing fires in Gatlinburg Monday night but they nearly caused a huge business sign in Crossville to topple over. City Fire Dept. crews and Emergency Personnel were called to the intersection of Genesis Rd. and Interstate Drive where the huge Speedway road sign was in danger of being blown completely down. The high winds, some gusting to as much as 60 mph, caused the sign’s post to bend at the first joint, causing many to fear that the tall sign would fall over onto electrical wires and then onto the roadway. The intersection was immediately closed down and traffic rerouted around the dangerous area. Tuesday morning, sign crews began the task of replacing the sign’s post. Traffic flow was again allowed to resume in the area.
