TENNESSEE RANKS SIXTH AS THE STATE WITH THE BEST CHRISTMAS SPIRIT
If you’re humming Christmas carols by late August and putting lights on your house and reindeer on the front lawn practically before the trick-or-treaters have retreated into the shadows, chances are you live in Tennessee.
In a recent CenturyLink ranking of the U.S. states with the greatest Christmas spirit, Tennessee came in sixth – behind only Washington, South Dakota, Utah, Missouri and Maine – as the state with the greatest holiday spirit.
If you’re wondering about the bottom five states – the ones with the least holiday spirit – those would be Michigan, New Jersey, Florida, Hawaii and Alaska.
The survey examined data in two primary categories: area culture and online activity. That might seem pretty arbitrary; but, hey, it was their survey, they made the rules.
CenturyLink measured online activity by the states’ overall Google searches for Christmas-related topics… such as music, decorations, Christmas movies and the like; other online activity included whether folks tweeted about Christmas.
Area culture examined numbers of Christmas-tree farms and level of charity giving in each state.
