Tennessee residents are allowed to hunt without a license on Saturday, August 25, 2018 which coincides with the opening day of squirrel season and the second day of the archery-only statewide private lands velvet antler hunt.

Tennessee state resident hunters are exempt from hunting licenses and WMA permit requirements. Nonresident hunters must have appropriate licenses to hunt in Tennessee on August 25, 2018.

Squirrel hunters are allowed to harvest up to 10 squirrels per day.

The archery-only antlered deer hunt is open statewide. Deer hunters are allowed to harvest 1 antlered deer per day, not to exceed 2 per license year. Hunters must have permission from the landowner to hunt private land. Successful deer hunters will need to establish a TWRA identification number if they do not already have one before checking in a deer. TWRA reminds all deer hunters that deer must be checked in the same day as harvested and before leaving the state or gifted to another.

Hunter education requirements are not waived for Free Hunting Day. Anyone born on or after January 1, 1969 is required to have successfully completed a hunter education course. An apprentice license is required for those born on or after January 1, 1969 that have not completed a hunter education course.
