TODAY MARKS ONE DECADE SINCE NEWSOM, CHRISTIAN MURDERS
Today marked ten years since the murders of Channon Christian and Chris Newsom. In 2007 the couple was raped, tortured and killed, four people were convicted in their deaths.
Family and friends gathered on Saturday at the cemeteries where they were laid to rest. “We want to do everything we can to honor the kids because they deserve it, they were both good kids, and this crime should have never happened,” said Mary Newsom, Chris’ mother. The support from the community is what keeps their fight strong.
The Tennessee Supreme Court upheld two death sentences against Lemaricus Davidson, one of the men convicted of the rape, torture and murder of Christian and Newsom in 2007. The Court issued their opinion in December, saying they agree with the trial court’s rulings. Davidson, along with three others, were convicted in the deaths of the slain couple.
Death sentences are automatically reviewed in the state of Tennessee.
