TRAFFIC STOP FOR TAIL LIGHTS TURNS INTO DUI ARREST
On Saturday at around 2:23 a.m., Deputy Holden Atkinson observed a Ford F-150 traveling on Sparta Highway with non-functioning tail lights. The deputy initiated a traffic stop where he made contact with a driver and identified him as Dominick Barlow who then stepped out to see the lights for himself.
At this point, the deputy detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from Barlow and upon asking where he was coming from, Barlow said he had just left the Dog House bar and also stated that he had consumed seven alcoholic drinks.
When asked when his last drink was consumed, Barlow said his last drink was around 1:00 a.m. Barlow was then asked if he would be willing to perform a standardized field sobriety test, to which he agreed.
However, Barlow would fail these tests and would be placed into custody for his second DUI. He was transported to the Cumberland County jail and after a search warrant was granted for two vials of blood, Barlow would be charged with driving under the influence. His vehicle was driven home by his uncle due to his passenger also being impaired.
